Child Health Consultation
A broader starting point when you are unsure where to begin.
Bring the story, not just the symptom.
A short timeline, previous reports and the questions you actually want answered can make a consultation much more useful.
What changed?
Note when the concern started, what makes it better or worse and anything that has already been tried.
Bring what you have.
Previous prescriptions, scans, vaccination records, discharge notes or school observations can provide useful context.
Ask what matters.
Tell the doctor what you are worried about and what decision you are trying to make. You do not need to use medical terminology.
Choose the service by the question you are trying to answer.
Parents do not always know whether a concern belongs to a routine pediatric appointment, a developmental assessment or a newborn-focused visit. That is normal. The service pages are organised around common reasons families seek care, so you can start with the closest match and explain the rest to the doctor during the consultation.
For infants
Newborns and young infants can change quickly. Feeding difficulty, poor weight gain, jaundice concerns, fever, unusual sleepiness or breathing changes should be discussed promptly. Routine visits can also cover vaccination, growth and feeding. Bring discharge papers and any hospital or NICU records when available.
For toddlers and school-age children
Common concerns include recurrent infections, appetite changes, constipation, allergies, sleep issues, developmental questions, learning concerns and behaviour. A pediatric consultation can help determine whether the problem can be managed with routine advice, needs monitoring or deserves further evaluation.
For older children and adolescents
Growth, nutrition, sleep, school performance, physical activity and emotional wellbeing become increasingly relevant. A supportive consultation can give families a place to discuss these issues without reducing the child to a single symptom.
If you are unsure which service to select, use the general Child Health Consultation page or contact the team directly. You do not need to diagnose the problem before booking.
What if you are not sure which appointment to book?
Start with the general Child Health Consultation page or call the team. Parents do not need to know the exact diagnosis before asking for help. Bring the records you have, describe the main concern and let the pediatrician decide whether a focused assessment or another service is appropriate.
For routine concerns, a scheduled consultation is usually the right starting point. For severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, use urgent or emergency medical care instead of waiting for an outpatient response.

What records should I bring?+
Vaccination records, previous prescriptions, reports, discharge summaries and school or therapy notes can be useful.
When should I seek urgent care instead?+
Severe breathing difficulty, seizures, marked dehydration, significant altered consciousness or rapid deterioration require prompt medical assessment.
