Detailed guidance

What families should know about pregnancy care & antenatal consultation.

Pregnancy brings rapid physical and emotional changes, and good antenatal care is about more than scheduled tests. It involves understanding the mother’s health, monitoring the pregnancy, discussing symptoms and helping families recognise when a concern needs timely medical attention. Dr. Radha Jain, Senior Consultant Gynecologist & Obstetrician, provides women’s and maternity care at Genesis Neurogen’s East Delhi centres in Rishabh Vihar and Krishna Nagar.

Antenatal care with context

Pregnancy visits commonly include review of symptoms, blood pressure, weight, fetal growth and the investigations appropriate to the stage of pregnancy. The exact schedule depends on the pregnancy and any medical or obstetric factors present.

A detailed history is particularly useful when a woman has thyroid disease, diabetes, hypertension, previous pregnancy complications, recurrent pregnancy loss or another health condition. These factors can change the monitoring plan.

Understanding common pregnancy symptoms

Nausea, tiredness, back discomfort, heartburn and changes in sleep can occur during pregnancy, but symptoms should always be considered in context. Severe abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, severe headache with visual symptoms, significant swelling, reduced fetal movement later in pregnancy, fluid leakage or other worrying symptoms require prompt medical assessment.

Women should avoid self-medicating during pregnancy without appropriate medical advice, including over-the-counter medicines and supplements.

Preparing for delivery and postpartum care

Pregnancy care should gradually prepare the family for delivery, newborn feeding and the mother’s recovery. Discussions can include birth planning, warning signs, postpartum contraception, breastfeeding support and follow-up after delivery.

The postpartum period is also part of women’s healthcare. Persistent heavy bleeding, fever, severe pain, breathlessness, severe headache, chest pain or concerning emotional symptoms need timely evaluation.

Personalised maternity guidance

Every pregnancy is different. Genesis Neurogen’s approach is to combine routine antenatal monitoring with practical counselling so women understand what is happening and when they should contact the medical team. The objective is informed, continuous care rather than a one-size-fits-all pregnancy package.

Ask about an appointment →
When should I schedule a pregnancy consultation?+

Timing depends on whether you are planning pregnancy, have a positive pregnancy test, are already pregnant or have a specific concern. Earlier assessment can be useful when there are risk factors or symptoms.

What should I bring to an antenatal visit?+

Bring previous ultrasound reports, laboratory reports, prescriptions and details of your pregnancy history where available.

Can pregnancy symptoms be discussed even if they seem common?+

Yes. Nausea, pain, bleeding, swelling, headaches and other symptoms can be discussed so the doctor can decide what is expected and what needs assessment.

What if I have been advised that my pregnancy is high risk?+

High-risk pregnancy needs individual medical assessment and closer follow-up. Share the reports and previous advice during the consultation.
